A very cute story with a different kind of romance and a fun mystery.
Sophia and her brother, Felix's parents are ghost hunters. They had a paranormal family business until their parents got a divorce. Sophia meets a ghost named Whitney and decides to help her herself. She learns more and more about Whitney's murder but also learns about herself along the way. Felix tries to stop her from solving the mystery and tries to banish Whitney's ghost, but ends up causing more harm than good. This was a great story of self-acceptance and a great murder mystery with an awesome AHA moment! Thanks to NetGalley for this one!

Again, I'm not a romance novel kind of person, and this one was really damn good. It got a little corny at the end, but overall it was great. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because of the corny ending. Tate is a nurse/student who moves in with her brother in his apartment; on the night that she moves in Miles (the neighbor across the hall) is drunk and thrown against her new home's door. He ends up being a friend of her brother's and she allows Miles to sleep on the couch. You can immediately feel the sexual tension between the two of them and it never lets up over the course of the book. Of course, they end up having a thing, but Miles tells her that this is strictly sex and nothing will come of it, but of course-Tate falls for him anyway. But Miles' secret past is revealed to the reader through Miles' POV chapters, and believe me when I say that I was NOT expecting that twist. Of course, there is a happy ending, but not one that I expected. I really enjoyed it :) ![]() I am not a romance novel person; I don't enjoy reading something based entirely on a relationship That being said, this book was FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC! I felt emotionally connected with both Fallon and Ben and the character development as the story progressed was great. Nothing felt corny or forced at any point. I usually read YA, but this book did not feel far off from it. Fallon is an ex-actor who was in a fire and has burn scars on the left side of her body from her head to her legs. She meets Ben on November 9 before she moves from California to New York. Ben has an extremely dark secret and immediately is interested in Fallon, who returns the feelings. What starts as being fake girlfriend and boyfriend leads to the two of them agreeing to only meet once a year on November 9, with no interaction otherwise, for the next five years. After that, they will decide to continue in a real relationship or let theirs fizzle out. The book goes through both character's perspectives and through each year's date. As both of their lives take drastic turns, they find ways to still meet each other on November 9 and reveal their feelings for each other. They hurt each other's feelings, forgive each other, and mend each other as normal relationships go. I loved going through the relationship with them. Ben is a writer. And he is writing a novel based on his and Fallon's relationship. About halfway through the book, Fallon is allowed to read Ben's manuscript and it creates a drastic change on her feelings as well as the reader's, but allows the reader to see a much deeper part of Ben as well as explains his secret and how he came to "run in" to Fallon on the day that they met. There is much more than fate involved. What is really fun about the book is that Fallon loves romance novels, so she is frequently commenting on what would be corny or what wouldn't work if their story was a book, so nothing ever feels like your typical romance novel. I'll definitely be reading more Colleen Hoover after this. :) Despite the length of BTDBY, I really enjoyed it. It is much darker than the rest of the Diviners series and takes the reader down a history lesson of the United States. I love the historical fiction piece as this is the time period when people were trying to "cleanse" the US of immigrants and adding the Diviners to this prejudice feels perfect for the time period. The Diviners not only have to deal with helping rid New York of ghosts that are killing people but also with prejudice against their diversity. This was a great mirror of our immigration current situation and I LOVED it! I think the conversations that this book starts will be of great importance.
Happy Halloween! 🎃👻 What creepy Books are you reading today? I’m still reading Before The Devil Breaks You by Libba Bray and LOVING it! This third installment of the Diviners series is intense and much creepier than the other two. While the characters have remained the same people, their growth in this book is significant! While it’s definitely NOT a short creepy story, it’s not for the faint of heart!
![]() Five stars! I loved this retelling of The Great Gatsby! As long as you don't focus so much on the Retelling part and focus on the actual story, it's a great one! I loved the attention to detail in the story that really helped me to visualize just how beautiful the settings and people in the book were. I also really enjoyed Naomi's character growth as she enters the Hamptons as a slightly rebellious teen to a young woman who knows the difference between who she thinks she is and who she knows she is. Loved it!
Whoop whoop! Spring Break! I finished 2 books!
